# Journalist makes huge claim about Liverpool’s title chances

Liverpool fans will take anything when it comes to winning the Premier League this season, following claims made by journalist Duncan Castles.

Speaking on [The Transfer Window Podcast (27/03/20)](https://play.acast.com/s/thetransferwindow/5b5940b4-cb67-4368-b17b-7745693f193b), with quotes cited by the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1262143/Liverpool-news-Premier-League-award-title-coronavirus), Castles said he believes the Reds will be handed the title even if the campaign isn’t completed:

> I think the title will be awarded to Liverpool.
>
> My expectation is they will be awarded the title and I think it’s correct that they are given the title but the problem for Liverpool and the problem for the club to address will be that it will have an asterisk beside it if the direction of travel is followed and the season is stopped early.
>
> So there will always be the ability to question mark it, even if rationally that ability isn’t fair, it would be an incomplete season.

Although this would be a far from ideal scenario, it has reached the stage where getting over the finish line takes precedence over anything.

Football is the least of our concerns at the moment, of course, but it is also hard not to think about it, considering the impact it has in our day-to-day lives.

Liverpool supporters have waited for 30 years to get over the finish line, following so much agony in that time.

To have built up a 25-point lead and not win the league would be sickening now, and in many ways unjust, given their dominance over everyone.

Let’s face it, Liverpool were going to be crowned champions before the outbreak of illness, with their triumph a foregone conclusion. It’s not a six-point gap, for example, which would be a different issue.

In an ideal world, the Reds would win the title on a glorious sunny day at Anfield, but that isn’t a realistic scenario right now unless the league is delayed until fans can return to stadiums.

We can’t be picky, however, and whether it’s won in an empty ground, on a training pitch or without actually winning it officially, so be it.

Sure, tribalism will come into play and rival supporters will have their say on the matter, no doubt mocking Liverpool in the process, but would anyone of a Reds persuasion really care?
