# Journalist reveals another reason why Liverpool didn’t sign Fekir

One of the most high-profile transfer sagas at Liverpool in recent years involved Nabil Fekir.

The Frenchman appeared on the verge of joining the Reds from Lyon in the summer of 2018, only for a knee issue to be detected at the eleventh hour.

Liverpool understandably didn’t want an injury-prone player in their ranks and the transfer was subsequently called off.

There seems to be more to the story than meets the eye, however, with potential personality issues with Fekir and his representatives also not appealing to Jurgen Klopp.

That’s according to *Mirror* journalist David Maddock, who told [https://www.skysports.com/football/news/15117/11835776/jurgen-klopp-how-liverpool-manager-has-transformed-the-club-in-four-years](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/15117/11835776/jurgen-klopp-how-liverpool-manager-has-transformed-the-club-in-four-years)*[Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/15117/11835776/jurgen-klopp-how-liverpool-manager-has-transformed-the-club-in-four-years)* about issues that arose:

> I think his greatest quality is to find the right personalities. People have overlooked this.

> They nearly signed Nabil Fekir from Lyon last summer and in the end the reason they didn’t sign him was not because of the injury – and he did have an injury, which was a problem but they could have done the deal.

> There were other problems: he got his brother involved, began demanding more money, wouldn’t speak to the Liverpool people. Klopp was like, ‘we can’t have that personality in our squad’.

> He picks the right personalities who respond to his energy and his man management.

It is an interesting update on the situation, perhaps further showing why Fekir wasn’t the man for Liverpool.

The attacking midfielder has since moved from Lyon and Real Betis, and appears to be performing well, but the Reds have moved on.

In terms of talent, he would have been an outstanding addition at Anfield, but football isn’t entirely about talent.
