# Kaka: Build the team around Coutinho

Former World Player of the Year Kaka has suggested that Liverpool should build their team around their midfield maestro Philippe Coutinho.

Kaka, who has previously played in Italy and Spain,  is expecting massive things from his 23-year-old compatriot Coutinho.

The former Inter Milan player has established himself as a key member of the Liverpool team and Kaka believes the gap left by ex-skipper Steven Gerrard can be filled by Coutinho.

In an article by [***the Mirror***](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/philippe-coutinho-can-liverpools-next-6234329), Kaka is quoted as saying:

*“I have been a big admirer of Coutinho and he can be a very important player for Liverpool and Brazil. There will be a lot of expectation on him with Liverpool fighting to get back into the Champions League, but I know that he can handle it.*

*“One great player doesn’t make a team, but you can build a team around one great player, and I believe he can be that player.*

*“Coutinho is a humble guy. He won’t talk about being able to replace a legend like Steven Gerrard, and the truth is nobody could ever replace him, but with Gerrard gone they do need somebody to step up — and he can do that.”*

Kaka, who now plays for Orlando City in MLS, enjoyed a successful career glittered with numerous trophies.

His most successful spells were at AC Milan and Real Madrid.

Liverpool added another Brazilian, Roberto Firmino, to their ranks this summer.

Brendan Rodgers splashed £29m on the ex-Hoffenheim attacking midfielder and he made his debut coming on a substitute in the latter stages of the opening match against Stoke City.

The MLS midfielder has warned Liverpool fans that it may take a while before Firmino displays his best form in England.

Kaka went on to add:

*“Firmino will be a big player for Liverpool, too, and will have a good relationship on the field with Coutinho, but the fans must give him time.* *He has come for a big transfer fee, but still you must remember he is adjusting to a new league and that always takes time.”*
