# Klopp reveals brilliant way in which he dealt with Aston Villa defeat

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he sent his players a “long, long message” after Liverpool’s shock defeat to Aston Villa, feeling much better about the situation afterwards.

The Reds suffered humiliation at the hands of Villa in their last outing, losing 7-2 at Villa Park – the [first time](https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1312843415298732034?s=20) they had conceded seven goals since 1963.

While Klopp was left stinging after the game, he made sure that he gathered his thoughts and spoke to his players.

In an interview with *[BBC Sport,](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/54553452)* the Liverpool boss outlined how he dealt with the situation in the hours after the game:

> The night after the game was not the best night of my life, let me say it like this. But I got up in the morning and I knew I had to speak to my boys.

> But they were not here, so I texted them a long, long message, with pretty much my thoughts about the things that happened.

> After that, I felt much better, because then it was out, and then from that moment on we could carry on.

> And that’s what we did. Now we are here and we’ve really had enough time to deal with it.

> Losing a game, come on, you lose a game and it’s always exactly the opposite of what you want. Losing it 7-2 makes it, of course, worse, but sometimes – and we have to show that – \[it can be\] more useful.

> We have the chance to show that on Saturday lunchtime against Everton, and so that makes it really interesting, because we face a team who is flying and we had a proper knock.

> So now let’s see who deals better with what.

This was a typically measured way of Klopp dealing with a mini-crisis, not allowing there to be an overreaction. Even at half-time, Andy Robertson [revealed](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/411296-andy-robertson-aston-villa-premier-league-reaction) that Klopp simply told his side to win the second half, realising that losing the actual match was no disaster.

There is no doubt that Liverpool [were awful at Villa](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39pO-wFdv94), making defensive errors galore, but three deflections also went against them and they should arguably have been given a penalty at 1-0.

Klopp is a master when it comes [to man-management](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/325476-alexander-arnold-jurgen-klopp-liverpool) and he will have his players revved-up for Saturday’s Merseyside derby away to Everton, demanding a response.

The fact that Liverpool have never lost back-to-back Premier League games under Klopp, stretching across 164 matches, is testament to the manner in which they bounce back, and suggests the Blues should be concerned.
