# Klopp views Havertz as number one summer transfer target

Kai Havertz is Liverpool’s number one transfer target this summer, according to the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1239850/Liverpool-Kai-Havertz-Jurgen-Klopp-transfer-wish-list).

The 20-year-old has continued to shine for Bayer Leverkusen this season, notching [four goals and two assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/Show/Kai-Havertz) in the Bundesliga.

Numerous [reports](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/31/reliable-journalist-says-leverkusen-are-expecting-liverpool-to-bid-for-havertz/) have [tipped](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/15/liverpool-reportedly-readying-huge-offer-for-havertz/) Havertz to join Liverpool at the end of the season, as Klopp looks to make his squad even more formidable.

This [latest update](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1239850/Liverpool-Kai-Havertz-Jurgen-Klopp-transfer-wish-list) claims the midfielder is the manager’s first-choice signing this summer, even stating that the Reds are desperate to bring him in.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

In my opinion, Havertz has the potential to be a wonderful addition to Liverpool’s squad because he will bring something different to the Reds’ midfield. The youngster has been [compared](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/08/22/do-reported-91m-liverpool-target-kai-havertz-a-mix-of-ballack-an/) to Mesut Ozil in style, mainly because of his left foot and eye for a killer pass, which is something Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum are not as effective at producing.

While Havertz possesses the guile of Ozil – he averages [2.2 key passes per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/Show/Kai-Havertz) in the league this season – he also brings more of a physical edge, standing at six feet two inches tall and is capable of thriving in a box-to-box role.

While not as strong defensively as the likes of Henderson and Wijnaldum – he only averages [0.8](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/Show/Kai-Havertz) tackles per league game this season, which is fewer than the Liverpool pair ([2.2](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/68659/Show/Jordan-Henderson) and [1.0](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/33568/Show/Georginio-Wijnaldum) respectively) – he could offer something different in the middle of the park, creating more and carrying a greater threat in the final third.
