# Klopp’s former assistant rejects Liverpool for Huddersfield

Jurgen Klopp’s former assistant David Wagner will reject the chance to reunite with his former colleague at Anfield as he looks set to become the new manager at Championship side Huddersfield Town, [as reported by John Percy of the Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/11975313/Liverpool-snubbed-by-Jurgen-Klopps-former-assistant-David-Wagner-who-wants-to-take-over-at-Huddersfield.html).

Wagner left Borussia Dortmund last week and Liverpool reportedly wanted to bring him onboard as part of Klopp’s backroom staff, but that won’t be the case as he’ll be replacing Chris Powell at the Terriers.

Wagner played for the US national team as a player, and is a close personal friend of Klopp from when the pair played together at FSV Mainz. Wagner was even the best man at Klopp’s wedding.

Wagner managed Borussia Dortmund II from 2011-2015, and it is interesting that Liverpool’s new manager wanted to bring in someone with the expertise of coaching young players.

This might indicate that the German wants somebody he knows well working with the academy players.
