# Lawrenson believes Tottenham could “spring a shock” against Liverpool

Liverpool welcome Tottenham to Anfield on Sunday afternoon, in yet another vital Premier League clash.

The Reds are likely to be just three points ahead of Manchester City by the time the match kicks off, assuming the champions win at home to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Although Jurgen Klopp’s side go into the weekend meeting with Spurs as strong favourites, the north Londoners are more than capable of getting a result.

Taking to *[BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50160816)* to air his thoughts, Mark Lawrenson believes Mauricio Pochettino’s men could “spring a shock”:

> I am at Anfield for this game and think it is a tricky fixture for Liverpool to negotiate.

> In the past few seasons, while Mauricio Pochettino has been in charge of Tottenham, the Reds always know they are going to get a game against Spurs.

> Their last visit here, when Tottenham only lost to a late Toby Alderweireld own-goal, was an example of that. Spurs had been the better team in the second half.
>
> Nobody is expecting that to be the case this time, after the way Tottenham have played in the past few weeks, but I still think they have got it in them to spring a shock.

Lawrenson is famously positive about his former club usually, but he does a right to feel a little worried about the game.

Spurs picked up a morale-boosting 5-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade in midweek, which could benefit them greatly.

The likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen can cause anyone damage on their day.

Having said that, Liverpool are comfortably the superior team, and if they hit top gear on Sunday, their opponents will be powerless to stop them.
