# Leeds “failed” in attempt to sign Kent – would he have been good enough?

Ryan Kent could have joined Leeds United this summer, but there is no guarantee that he would have flourished at Elland Road.

The winger has signed for Rangers from Liverpool on a permanent basis, in a deal thought to be worth £7.5 million.

According to the *Mirror*‘s David Anderson on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/MirrorAnderson/status/1168862061100748801?s=20), Leeds attempted to acquire Kent’s services, but “failed” with a £4.5 million bid.

Kent’s return to Rangers is a significant piece of business by the Scottish giants, as they look to close the gap on Celtic this season.

It looked like he would be staying at Liverpool, but his switch north of the border makes perfect sense.

Leeds would have been an intriguing move if a deal had been agreed, allowing Kent to work under the superb Marcelo Bielsa.

There is still a significant step up from the Scottish Premiership to the Championship, however, which the 22-year-old may have struggled with.

England’s second tier is not always given the credit it deserves, with some very good players plying their trade in the division.

It’s easy to assume that Kent would have flourished in a Premier League-chasing team, but there’s every chance that his limitations could have been exposed, too.
