# Lewis Cook responds to transfer link to Liverpool

Liverpool were [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/10/18/liverpool-set-to-battle-chelsea-for-signing-of-bournemouth-star-cook/) with a move for Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook last week, with Chelsea also keen on acquiring his signature.

The 22-year-old has returned from a serious knee injury and is looking to find the form that earned him an England call-up last year.

In an interview with the *[Daily Echo](https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/17986305.i-enjoying-football-here---lewis-cooks-full-focus-afc-bournemouth-despite-liverpool-chelsea-speculation/)*, Cook was asked about the transfer link to Liverpool, but played down the stories:

> I have just started playing football here \[again\]. I had been out for a long time, so I am just focusing on Bournemouth at the moment.

> I am loving being back and playing football. I just forget about it \[the speculation\] really.

> You’ve just got to focus on your football here and keep enjoying it. I am obviously enjoying playing football again – that’s all I am focusing on right now.

Cook would be an astute signing by the Reds, if their reported interest in him ends up being genuine.

The youngster is a quality footballer who combines technical expertise with hard work and he could have a big future in the game.

There is the worry that his injury could have a negative long-term effect on Cook’s game, but he has looked good since returning to the Bournemouth side.

Liverpool will reach a stage where they need to look at midfield reinforcements, with James Milner now 33 and both Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum approaching their 30s.

Cook represents an exciting option in that respect, albeit not an elite one.
