# Liverpool defender Johnston linked with Feyenoord move – does his exit make sense?

George Johnston’s potential Liverpool exit is a shame, but breaking into the first team was always going to be unlikely.[*\*](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-liverpool-defender-in-advanced-talks-to-join-new-club-permanently/)

*[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-liverpool-defender-in-advanced-talks-to-join-new-club-permanently/)* claim that the 20-year-old is in “advanced talks” with Feyenoord over a permanent move before the end of the transfer window.

The Eredivisie club seem confident of getting their man, bringing an end to Johnston’s time at Anfield.**\**

Losing a talented young defender always leaves a tinge of disappointment, but this is a move that benefits all parties.

At 20, Johnston is arguably ready to be looking for first team football, rather than spending his time in Liverpool’s academy.

For all his quality, the young centre-back was always going to find it difficult to break into Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren are all far more experienced and developed and that’s without mentioning a few others.

Ki-Jana Hoever is regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters at Liverpool, and will end up being a centre-back, while the highly-rated Sepp van den Berg joined from PEC Zwolle in the summer.
