# Liverpool enter the race to sign Benfica youngster Brito

Liverpool have entered the race to sign Benfica youngster Rafael Brito, according to *Record*, relayed in an article by *[Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-tried-sign-18-year-old-midfielder-reds-continue-interest/)*.

The 18-year-old midfielder has caught the eye in the Portuguese side’s academy this season, most notably the Under-23s and B side.

Seen as one of Benfica’s most exciting youth products, it is perhaps no surprise to see a host Europe’s top clubs showing an interest in signing him.

Liverpool are believed to be one of those, along with Spanish powerhouses [Barcelona and Real Madrid.](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-tried-sign-18-year-old-midfielder-reds-continue-interest/)

The Reds have reportedly attempted to sign [Brito](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_Brito) already, although he has recently [signed a new deal](https://www.slbenfica.pt/en-us/agora/noticias/2020/01/21/futebol-benfica-rafael-brito-renovacao-contrato-ate-2024) at his current club.

While I can’t lay claim to having watched Brito in action, just being linked with such a talented player is exciting, in my opinion.

There was a time when Liverpool couldn’t compete with the likes of Barca and Madrid, such were their varying levels of success.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are champions of both [Europe](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48368443) and [the world](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2636636.html), however, and I think any footballer would jump at the chance to join them currently.

Brito would be a great addition to Liverpool’s academy, honing his talent in Kirkby with a view to becoming a future regular.
