Liverpool had emerged as front-runners in the race to sign the Sao Paulo forward, according to Tuttomercatoweb, as per the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/632938/Liverpool-transfer-news-Alexandre-Pato-January-move).

It had been [reported by the Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/11818899/Manchester-United-transfer-news-Brazilian-Pato-offered-to-Old-Trafford-club-and-Chelsea.html) that Pato was being chased by fellow Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United this month as the Brazilian forward appears to be high in demand, however, it now seems as though Liverpool are the club leading the race for the 26-year-old.

The Reds struggled in the striking department this season, with Daniel Sturridge being plagued with injuries and £32.5m summer signing Christian Benteke struggling to adapt to the Reds’ style of play and failing to impress manager Jurgen Klopp.

The forward has spent this season so far on loan at Sao Paulo from fellow Brazilian giants Corinthians after it emerged that Pato’s parent club were struggling to afford his considerably high wages, leading to them considering a permanent sale of the striker this month.

Reports in Italy suggest it would take an £11m fee to bring Pato to Anfield, with the ex-AC Milan striker interested in a move to England.
