# Liverpool fans are blown away by Jota’s performance for Portugal

Some Liverpool supporters have been lauding Diogo Jota on Twitter, following a superb performance for Portugal on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old started in his country’s 3-0 win at home to Sweden, proving to be arguably the star man on show with Cristiano Ronaldo absent.

Jota scored once in either half, and also laid on an assist for Bernardo Silva, showcasing his brilliance in the final third and showing why the Reds [paid £41million](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54214671) for his services last month.

The signing of the Potuguese forward came from out of nowhere, but he hit the ground running, scoring on his Premier League debut at home to Arsenal.

While he also played in the 7-2 humiliation at the hands of Aston Villa, he was one of the [rare brighter sparks](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1485215/Live/England-Premier-League-2020-2021-Aston-Villa-Liverpool) on the day.

Jota has a directness similar to Sadio Mane, as his second goal on the night against Sweden proved, and he looks a tailor-made backup to the Senegalese.

For too long, the Reds have lacked top class deputies behind the front-three, but Jota looks the real deal and he could even play a pivotal role in Saturday’s Merseyside derby away to Everton.

These Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on their new star, tipping him to become a real hero on Merseyside.
