# Liverpool fans are concerned about Wijnaldum’s comments surrounding future

Gini Wijnaldum has been a fantastic signing for Liverpool, even since he [joined](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36846756) from Newcastle United back in 2016.

At the time, there wasn’t a hugely positive reaction to the move, with many assuming he was coming in as a backup player in the attack, having often played in a [forward-thinking role](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/34498802) at St James’ Park.

Instead, Jurgen Klopp has moulded Wijnaldum into one of the most effective, understated central midfielders in Europe, with the Dutchman possessing a mix of physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality.

There has been some doubt surrounding the 29-year-old’s future at Liverpool, however, with recent reports even suggests the Reds may [consider letting him leave](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/06/liverpool-fans-are-stunned-after-wijnaldum-is-linked-with-summer-exit/) this summer.

In an interview with [https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11919531/liverpools-georginio-wijnaldum-supports-jurgen-klopps-decision-to-rest-players-against-shrewsbury](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11919531/liverpools-georginio-wijnaldum-supports-jurgen-klopps-decision-to-rest-players-against-shrewsbury)*[Sky Sports News](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11919531/liverpools-georginio-wijnaldum-supports-jurgen-klopps-decision-to-rest-players-against-shrewsbury)*, Wijnaldum was worryingly cagey about his next step, not guaranteeing that he would sign a new deal at Anfield:

> It depends on what the club wants and how the situation is at that time. We will see. \[Anfield\], it’s like home.

> I’m just focusing on bringing this season to a good end and that’s the only thing I’m thinking of.

Needless to say, these Liverpool supporters showed their concern on Twitter, urging the midfielder to stay put.

> Gini is off. Sounds like a man resigned to winning the league and then leaving a hero… 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔
