# Liverpool fans are concerned by Gomez’s performance against Genk

Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Genk on Tuesday is never going to be remembered as a Champions League classic.

The Reds got the job done, though, winning 2-1 at Anfield, thanks to goals from Gini Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Jurgen Klopp made six changes ahead of Sunday’s huge Premier League clash with Manchester City, allowing some fringe players to shine.

One individual who still looks well short of his best is Joe Gomez, who impressed at times against Genk, but also looked a shaky presence on occasions.

These Liverpool supporters expressed concern about the centre-back on Twitter.

> I just want the 18/19 pre-injury Joe Gomez back.

> Joe Gomez been a liability every time he’s played this season

> Gomez zonally was poor – another team with a 532 and targeting right sided centre back zone

> With Trent flying down the wing and Virgil being avoided by opposition it’s a tough gig

### Read Liverpool Verdict

This is a far cry from the player we saw this time last year, when Gomez was outstanding at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

A broken leg suffered away to Burnley curtailed his progress and he hasn’t been the same since.

Gomez is only 22, however, and still has an enormous future, but he isn’t justifying a regular starting regular berth at present.

Dejan Lovren will surely partner Virgil van Dijk in the absence of Joel Matip this weekend.
