# Liverpool fans are frustrated after Shaqiri picks up injury in training

Xherdan Shaqiri will play no part in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash with MK Dons on Wednesday night.

The club have [confirmed](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/365980-injury-update-mk-dons-shaqiri-mane-alisson-origi) that the 27-year-old has picked up a knock in training, ruling him out of the third round tie.

It is a setback for Shaqiri, who seemed almost certain to feature for the Reds at Stadium MK.

Shaqiri made such a promising start to life at Liverpool last season, proving to be a such a key figure before Christmas.

It feels a long time ago now that the Swiss was scoring twice against Manchester United, though, having featured so sporadically since.

There is growing frustration at Shaqiri’s injury record, and as he approaches his 28th birthday, his Reds future could be up in the air next summer.

The hope is that the forward’s injury is only a short-term issue, but it is still a setback, nonetheless.
