# Liverpool fans are frustrated by Atkinson appointment for Tottenham clash

Martin Atkinson will [take charge](https://www.premierleague.com/news/1561984) of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Tottenham this weekend.

The Reds head to north London to face Jose Mourinho’s side on Saturday evening, looking to continue their stunning form.

In a league littered with fairly unpopular officials, with all due respect, Atkinson is one of the most divisive characters.

His decision to allow Marcus Rashford’s goal to stand against Liverpool earlier in the season caused particular ire, after Divock Origi had clearly been fouled in the build-up.

Reds supporters have been reacting negatively to Atkinson’s appointment, admitting concern about the result against Spurs.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

It should be stressed that the job of a referee is an extremely difficult one, even though the watching public often think they could do it with their eyes closed.

Despite that, the standard of officiating in England does seem to be at an all-time low, with too many questionable decisions on show.

Atkinson has been as culpable as anyone in recent times and Liverpool fans have every reason to be worried about him being in charge on Saturday.

Too often, he makes the game about himself, getting caught up in the drama and failing to endear himself to players, managers and fans alike.
