# Liverpool fans condemn racist Origi banner unveiled before Genk clash

Liverpool have condemned a racist banner that was put up in the away end ahead of the Reds UEFA Champions League clash with Genk.

The banner was taken down, and the club have made a statement about the matter.

> Liverpool Football Club condemns the offensive banner displayed in our section of the ground, prior to kick off.
>
> To be clear, the image used perpetuated a racist stereotype.
>
> This is completely unacceptable.
>
> We acted swiftly to have the banner removed and we are now working with the local authorities and stadium team in Genk to identify those responsible.
>
> Any subsequent action will be taken in keeping with our sanctions process.

Several Liverpool fans joined the club in their condemnation of the banner on Twitter.

> Twitter: @AHunterGuardian Absolute idiots (@alistaircubbon)

> Twitter: Imagine thinking that Origi banner is not disrespectful. (@unitedftbl)

> Twitter: That Origi banner is a awful idea (@Lois\_\_6)

> Twitter: That Origi banner is horrific #LFC (@Fergatron9)

### Read Liverpool’s verdict

The banner doesn’t really have a place in football in 2019.

Especially after the events of the last week, this is really not needed.

Hopefully the people responsible are found and given punishments.
