# Liverpool fans highlight ‘ridiculous’ Salah foul that summed up Atletico loss

Liverpool fans have forgotten what it feels like to lose, but that sinking feeling returned on Tuesday night.

Atletico Madrid [got the better](https://www.thisisanfield.com/?p=223187&preview_id=223187&preview_nonce=c942e25c51&post_format=standard&_thumbnail_id=223252&preview=true) of the European champions at the Wanda Metropolitano, thanks to Saul Niguez’s early goal.

The Reds started slowly and never recovered, [dominating possession](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1435986/MatchReport/Europe-Champions-League-2019-2020-Atletico-Madrid-Liverpool) but not registering a single shot on target.

Diego Simeone’s side will take a 1-0 lead with them to Anfield next month, which promises to be a fascinating encounter.

Although Liverpool deserve blame for not playing well, they were not helped by some very questionable officiating.

Every 50/50 decision seemed to go in favour of the hosts, and Jurgen Klopp and his players grew increasingly frustrated as the minutes ticked by.

One shocking first-half decision that we feel summed up Liverpool’s evening was when Mohamed Salah was somehow adjudged to have committed a foul, when clearly winning the ball in front of the assistant referee.

These Reds supporters reacted to the incident on social media, lambasting the quality of the officiating in the process.
