# Liverpool fans mock Diouf’s ludicrous comments about ‘bottling’ title race

El Hadji Diouf will forever go down as one of the least popular players to represent Liverpool.

The Senegalese was not only easy to dislike as a person, but he was also woeful as a player, scoring just six goals in 80 appearances for the Reds.

Speaking to [https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/el-hadji-diouf-liverpool-bottled-premier-league-title-201819-man-city](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/el-hadji-diouf-liverpool-bottled-premier-league-title-201819-man-city)*[FourFourTwo](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/el-hadji-diouf-liverpool-bottled-premier-league-title-201819-man-city)*, Diouf has embarrassingly claimed his former club ‘bottled’ the Premier League title race last season, eventually losing out to Manchester City:

> I don’t see them doing as well as they did last season. They had the chance to win the league title; they had it in their hands and then let it slip.

> They were seven points ahead around Christmas – how Manchester City got it in the end beats my mind. As they say in England, I think they bottled it.

Needless to say, these supporters have got wind of Diouf’s ludicrous comments, reading to them on Twitter.

> Yeah, they bottled it. They finished 2nd! Not 5th, 6th or even midtable. They lost by the narrowest of margins to a very dominant team. And if I remember correctly lost only once the whole campaign.

> A two year Liverpool player who scored some 10 goals in two seasons still has an ax to grind…

### Read Liverpool Verdict

Diouf’s comments are no great surprise, considering the nonsense he has spouted about Liverpool in the past.

The 38-year-old has taken digs at the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, both of whom have laughed it off.

Thankfully, Diouf has nothing to do with the club these days, with Jurgen Klopp assembling a group of players who are actually all likeable, unlike him.

His words should be taken with a pinch of salt and ridiculed.

To get 97 points – an all-time Liverpool record – and just miss out to an incredible City side, is certainly not the definition of bottling it.
