# Liverpool fans mock Maguire’s shocking performance for Man United

When Harry Maguire joined Manchester United last summer, he became the most expensive defender of all time.

United supporters were immediately delighted with the news, claiming Maguire would have a similar impact to Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.

It hasn’t quite panned out that way, however, with the England international failing to convince at Old Trafford to date.

Maguire threw in arguably the worst performance of his United career on New Year’s Day, as Liverpool’s rivals lost 2-0 away to Arsenal.

These Reds fans, and supporters of other clubs, were quick to mock the 26-year-old’s performance on Twitter, with Van Dijk comparisons getting a mention.

> The new VVD they said, worth 80 mil and picked united over city they said. Ole is united through and through they said, Everton got Ancelloti which leads me to believe they will officially be the 4th best team in the north west this season. ### Read Liverpool Verdict

Maguire is a good player, but he is also a hugely overrated one.

The fact that he plays for England, and had a strong 2018 World Cup, has seen him become over-hyped.

He is nowhere level Van Dijk’s level, as well as any world-class centre-back for that matter.

Maguire seems to be protected by some in the media, otherwise his current form would be highlighted more.
