# Liverpool fans mock Man City supporters’s outrageous statement about Reds’ spending

Liverpool are threatening to smash various records this season, hopefully on their way to Premier League glory.

The Reds have amassed [64 points from a possible 66](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) – no side in the history of Europe’s top five leagues has [achieved](https://talksport.com/football/650791/liverpool-premier-league-title-win-manchester-city-leicester-everton/) that feat.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be eyeing up the Premier League record of [100 points](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017%E2%80%9318_Premier_League) set by Manchester City in 2017/18, as well as the possibility of going the entire campaign unbeaten.

The most impressive aspect of Liverpool’s brilliance is that they have done it without spending vast sums of money, like City and Manchester United have over the years.

Prior to the January transfer window, City had a net spend of £601.78 million over the past five years and United’s was £437.37 million – on the flip side, Liverpool’s is just [£100.12 million](https://www.90min.com/posts/6494104-the-premier-league-s-11-biggest-spenders-over-the-last-five-years).

Granted, the Reds spent big on the likes of [Virgil van Dijk](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42496637) and [Alisson](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11441825/liverpool-sign-alisson-from-roma-in-record-deal-for-a-goalkeeper), but even they are now looking like a bargain.

One City supporter has [come to the conclusion](https://twitter.com/888sport/status/1219595341382721536?s=20) that Liverpool have ‘bought the title’ this season, which seems both rich and baffling:

These Reds supporters have been mocking the individual’s opinion on Twitter.

> What you fail to mention is Liverpool’s net spend in comparison. It’s a huge factor.
