# Liverpool fans plead with Wijnaldum to sign new contract

Recent claims by [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/1506303/?source=twitteruk) suggest Liverpool haven’t completely ruled out the idea of selling Gini Wijnaldum in the summer.

The Dutchman’s current deal expires in the summer of 2021 and there is interest from Italian and Spanish clubs.

Wijnaldum has become a mainstay of this fantastic Liverpool side, providing quality and consistency in the middle of the park, making 166 appearances in three-and-a-half seasons.

He is a hugely popular player among supporters, due to his likeable personality and attitude on the pitch, rarely putting a foot wrong in a Reds shirt.

Following the news surrounding Wijnaldum’s future, these Liverpool fans have responded to a tweet from the midfielder, pleading with him to sign a new contract at Anfield.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

It would be a huge surprise if Wijnaldum left at the end of the season, considering his influence at Liverpool.

Still only 29, he has so much to offer and is playing to a high level, scoring twice this season and enjoying a 90.4 percent passing accuracy, according to *[WhoScored.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/33568/Show/Georginio-Wijnaldum)*

Wijnaldum is a player who knits everything together, offering defensive and attacking contributions, so hopefully he ends up extending his stay at Liverpool.
