# Liverpool fans react as Zidane says Real Madrid will “eliminate” the Reds

Zinedine Zidane has claimed that Real Madrid will knock Liverpool out of the Champions League, should they be drawn against them.

The pair of 2018 finalists could face each other in Monday’s last-16 draw, in what would be a mouthwatering clash.

Revenge will be in the air if it does happen, following the heartache the Reds suffered in Kiev.

Zidane has stoked the fire ahead of a potential meeting, [saying](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/real-madrid-liverpool-zidane-joke-champions-league-draw-a4311431.html) Madrid will end Liverpool’s hopes of securing back-to-back European crowns:

> If we play Liverpool, we will eliminate them. We can’t do anything about the draw.

These Reds supporters have reacted to Zidane’s remarks on Twitter, with many desperate to see Jurgen Klopp’s men draw Madrid in the next round.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

These are certainly bold comments from the French legend, even if the comments were slightly tongue-in-cheek.

Deep down, he will be well aware of the threat Liverpool pose, knowing how much they have improved since the 2018 final.

The Reds would fancy their chances of getting revenge, but equally, there are other teams they would rather face in the last-16.

Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon and Atalanta are Liverpool’s other potential opponents.
