# Liverpool fans send clear message to Milner after Atletico defeat

Liverpool supporters have sent a clear message to James Milner on Twitter, following the Reds’ 3-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

It was heartbreak for Jurgen Klopp’s team on Wednesday evening, as they played excellently but ultimately bowed out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage.

Milner came on as a second-half substitute and was superb, bringing experience and quality to the side at a crucial time.

The veteran did his best to get Liverpool over the finish line, but for once, even he was powerless to prevent the Merseysiders from exiting the competition.

The Reds’ aim was to defend their European crown this season, but instead, the focus will have to return to the small issue of completing Premier League glory.

Milner posted on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/JamesMilner/status/1238039796859240448?s=20) on Thursday morning, speaking of his disappointment at the Atletico result:

> Not the finish we wanted – but players & fans gave it everything till the end. I’m proud to be part of this great club [#YNWA](https://twitter.com/hashtag/YNWA?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [pic.twitter.com/ypKiXQNHLs](https://t.co/ypKiXQNHLs)

These Liverpool supporters were quick to send the midfielder one obvious message – win the league!
