# Liverpool fans send special birthday message to Fernando Torres

A number of Liverpool supporters have been sending their best wishes to Fernando Torres, who is celebrating his 36th birthday on Friday.

The Spaniard was a magnificent player for the Reds between 2007 and 2011, scoring [81 goals in 142 appearances](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/1186) and proving to be one of the best strikers in the world.

When Torres arrived, he felt like a truly game-changing signing, taking Liverpool up a gear with his brilliance. He dovetailed superbly with Steven Gerrard, with the two bordering on unplayable at times during the 2008/09 season.

Unfortunately, Torres tarnished his reputation when he opted to joined Chelsea in January 2011, with some fans still not forgiving him for that decision.

As time has passed, however, many have got over the pain of El Nino’s exit, going back to adoring him once again.

That was highlighted on Friday, as Torres was sent numerous birthday messages from Liverpool fans on Twitter, most of which discussed his brilliance as a player.
