# Liverpool fined for Champions League pitch invasions by fans

Liverpool have been fined £8,500 by UEFA after fans invaded the pitch against Salzburg last month, according to *Press Association*‘s Carl Markham on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/carlmarkham/status/1184869128940769281?s=20).

The Reds edged out the Austrian side in a 4-3 classic at Anfield in the Champions League earlier this month.

Two separate fans invaded the pitch during the evening – one as the game was taking place and the other after the final whistle – and UEFA have subsequently taken action.

Celtic and Manchester City have also been fined for similar incidents, as European football’s governing body attempts to clamp down on the issue.

While it is nice to see supporters show passion for their team, there is no need to be entering the field of play.

All it does is cause a potential issue and the safety of the players is of the utmost importance.

Fans can roar their side on without having to run on the pitch and hopefully this fine is a warning sign, ensuring the problem stops.
