# Liverpool handed a boost in their attempts to sign Havertz

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their attempts to sign Kai Havertz, after Juventus pulled out of the race to acquire his signature.

That’s according to [Sky Germany](https://info.sky.de/inhalt/eng/index.jsp), via [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-in-pole-position-to-sign-havertz), who claims that the Serie A giants no longer consider him a summer target, due to the outbreak of illness that is currently affecting football.

It means Liverpool and Bayern Munich appear to be the front-runners to land the Bayer Leverkusen star, with the Reds [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/19/liverpool-claimed-to-have-made-e125m-bid-for-havertz/) with the [£81 million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kai-havertz/profil/spieler/309400) star in recent months.

While I don’t think adding to Liverpool’s midfield is the biggest priority this summer, I think Havertz could be a game-changing addition in the middle of the park. The 20-year-old is one of Europe’s most [highly-rated](https://www.dw.com/en/bundesliga-the-young-stars-to-watch-in-2019-20/g-49756662) young midfielders, having [scored 23 goals and registered eight assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/History/Kai-Havertz) in the last two seasons in the Bundesliga.

Havertz could bring a level of creativity in the middle of the park that can sometimes be missing – his average of [2.3 key passes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/Show/Kai-Havertz) per game in the league in 2019/20 is [superior to every Liverpool player, barring Trent Alexander-Arnold](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/26/Show/England-Liverpool).

Having to pay a [reported £100 million](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8024077/Kai-Havertz-models-game-Barcelona-icon-Xavi-ready-spark-bidding-war-summer.html) to get the Germany international may prove to be an issue, however, considering it would [smash](https://www.lfchistory.net/Transfers/Top15Bought) Liverpool’s current record transfer fee that is set by Virgil van Dijk.
