# Liverpool handed injury boost as Glatzel returns to training

Liverpool have been handed a boost with the news that Paul Glatzel is back in light training, according to [Goal’s](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/amp/news/paul-glatzel-liverpools-highly-regarded-young-striker/13l0ku7mo7uy71blz20sqx83de#click=) Neil Jones.

The 19-year-old has made a big step forward in his recovery from the cruciate ligament injury he suffered during pre-season, just as he was aiming to play a part with the first-team in 2019/20.

Glatzel captained Liverpool’s Under-18s to [FA Youth Cup glory](https://www.thefa.com/news/2019/apr/25/fa-youth-cup-final-report-manchester-city-liverpool-250419) last season, scoring the winning penalty in the final shootout against Manchester City.

The striker has been doing light jogging since last month, and the [report](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/amp/news/paul-glatzel-liverpools-highly-regarded-young-striker/13l0ku7mo7uy71blz20sqx83de#click=) also states that he hoped to play for the Under-23s this season, prior to the outbreak of illness in the UK.

Glatzel has almost become a forgotten man, but his return is a huge positive, both for him and Liverpool. The teenager is such an [exciting prospect](https://90maat.com/is-paul-glatzel-liverpools-next-breakout-star/), and were it not for the injury, I believe he could have starred in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup for the Reds this season.

Glatzel was a star man for the youth team, so there is no reason why he wouldn’t have led the line in much-changed domestic cup starting lineups.

Such is the severity of a cruciate ligament injury, the youngster must be eased back in slowly, but assuming he makes a full recovery, I believe he can have a bright future at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp has always been a [keen advocate of youth](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4099078/Jurgen-Klopp-insists-Liverpool-FC-youth-chance-try-differently-believe-it.html), and while it will be difficult to make it in the first team long-term, if he is good enough the manager could show his trust in him.
