# Liverpool handed potential Salah boost as new Olympics date is confirmed

Liverpool have been handed a potential boost regarding Mohamed Salah, following the announcement of the new Olympics dates.

According to the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/2020/03/30/new-date-confirmed-tokyo-olympics-july-23-2021/), the postponed games will now take place in 2021, with the opening ceremony scheduled for July 23rd.

There had been concerns that Salah’s involvement in the Olympics could see him miss valuable game time for Liverpool, especially with the spring mentioned as a possible date originally.

It looks as though the Reds will have their Egyptian superstar available for most of 2020/21, however, barring when he heads off to the Africa Cup of Nations.

There is no denying how big a boost this is to Liverpool, considering how invaluable Salah is. He has scored an incredible [91 goals in just 144 appearances](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/1317) for the Reds, so losing him for an extended period would be a massive blow.

Having to make do without Salah and Sadio Mane next January and February is bad enough, highlighting the need to bring in a new star forward this summer.

Liverpool cannot afford to be lacking back-up options in their absence, so the hope is that at least one of [Timo Werner](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/03/27/liverpool-must-sign-werner-as-they-risk-losing-salah/) of [Jadon Sancho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/12/28/liverpools-interest-in-jadon-sancho-confirmed/) signs.

Bringing in both seems unlikely, given the battle for places for the majority of next season, but the Reds must partly fill the void left by Salah and Mane.
