# Liverpool have doubts over one aspect of reported target Ben White’s game

Liverpool have doubts over reported transfer target Ben White’s aerial ability, according to *[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/revealed-why-liverpool-unsure-over-defender-target-white/)*.

The Reds have been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/06/30/brighton-set-their-asking-price-for-liverpool-target-ben-white/) with the Brighton star numerous times in the past, eyeing him up as a potential centre-back option.

White played on loan at Leeds United [last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-white/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/335721/plus/0?saison=&verein=399&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=), helping them gain promotion to the Premier League, and he is now back playing regularly for Brighton.

While Liverpool are keen admirers of the 23-year-old, they are worried about his dominance in the air, ‘partly as a consequence of his 6ft frame.’

It is described as a ‘weakness’ of White’s, potentially putting paid to a move to Anfield moving forward.

By centre-backs’ standards, White is certainly not the tallest, which does work against him in an aerial aspect.

That being said, it could be that Jurgen Klopp values defenders on far more than their aerial prowess, with White shining in other aspects of his game.

He is impressive on the ball, completing [82.2](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322036/Show/Ben-White) percent of his passes this season, and he also averages 1.8 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game.

In fairness, even White’s aerial statistics are far from poor, with the youngster’s average of [2.4 aerial battles](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322036/Show/Ben-White) won per game the same as [Virgil van Dijk](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/26/Show/England-Liverpool) in 2020/21, and more than Joel Matip (1.5).

With Van Dijk possibly [out for the season](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/10/18/van-dijk-ruled-out-for-months-with-cruciate-ligament-injury/), Liverpool need to look at centre-back options in January – White is definitely one to keep an eye on.
