# Liverpool hopeful Alisson will be back later this month

Liverpool expect Alisson to be back from injury later this month, according to *[The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2138245/2020/10/18/virgil-van-dijk-injury-alisson/)*‘s James Pearce.

The 28-year-old has been out since injuring his shoulder in training at the start of October, with a [six-week layoff](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-goalkeeper-alisson-becker-facing-six-weeks-out-shoulder-injury-jurgen-klopp-a4563111.html) mooted from some.

Liverpool have struggled in Alisson’s absence, failing to win either Premier League game against Aston Villa and Everton, with Adrian [not impressing](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/adrian-liverpool-goalkeeper-alisson-update-marko-grujic-aston-villa-b907741.html) between the sticks.

Alisson’s return is absolutely vital, especially with the horrible news that Virgil van Dijk will miss most of the season with a [knee injury](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/10/18/van-dijk-ruled-out-for-months-with-cruciate-ligament-injury/).

Liverpool’s goalkeeper has been one of the most influential performers of the Jurgen Klopp era, possessing an aura in the Reds’ goal and improving those around him. The Reds won the Champions League and Premier League back-to-back after he joined, which speaks volumes.

It is no surprise that Jurgen Klopp’s men have looked so shaky defensively without Alisson around, with Adrian nowhere near dominant, whether it be aerially, shot-stopping or in terms of decision-making.

Having both Alisson and Van Dijk out of the side at the same time is a scary prospect – the sooner the former is back, the better.
