# Liverpool in talks over “lucrative” pre-season friendly in China

Liverpool are set to face a pre-season friendly in China next July, according to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/1440713/2019/12/09/ornstein-on-monday-city-planning-for-life-after-pep-koscielny-and-ozils-goodbyes-to-emery-and-contract-talks-for-leicesters-maddison-and-soyuncu/?source=shared-article)‘s David Ornstein.

The Reds haven’t played in the Far East since 2017, often opting to spend a chunk of the summer in America instead.

That is partly due to Jurgen Klopp’s frustration at the weather conditions in that part of the world, favouring the climate in the states.

Ornstein claims that “there is an acceptance that the club have a duty to return to the Far East”, however, such is the size of the fanbase there.

There would be huge “commercial benefits” to the trip to China, at a time when Liverpool are not only flourishing on the pitch, but also off it.

A one-off match is thought to be the order of the day, rather than the Reds travelling to China for an extended period.

Things couldn’t be going any better for Liverpool at the moment, with their Premier League form bordering on ridiculous.

They are quickly becoming one of the biggest clubs in the world and heading to places such as China will only see them grow in size.

Playing just one game there is likely to please Klopp, which is ultimately the most important thing.
