# Liverpool linked with move for Inter Milan star Bastoni

Liverpool are interested in signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni this summer, according to [Passione Inter](https://www.passioneinter.com/news-mercato/mercato-sara-ancora-inghilterra-italia-il-liverpool-su-bastoni-dellinter/?fbclid=IwAR1JtxifRq89WqJtDj4c0nS12JAjFOYwji83UNEm03Q-iiMx7JCipkdamWE).

The 20-year-old centre-back is a highly-rated player at the San Siro, making [14 Serie A appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/329665/Show/Alessandro-Bastoni) this season.

Bastoni is believed to be one of a number of defensive targets being watched by Jurgen Klopp, with Dejan Lovren [potentially moving on](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/03/06/lovren-could-leave-liverpool-this-summer-after-almost-exiting-12-months-ago/) at the end of the season.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

I believe someone of Bastoni’s ilk could be precisely what Liverpool need when it comes to finding a Lovren replacement. Bastoni has an [88.8 per cent](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/329665/Show/Alessandro-Bastoni) pass completion rate in Serie A this season, showing that he could excel in Liverpool’s ball-playing back-line.

I think it is time that the [57-cap Croatian international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dejan-lovren/profil/spieler/37838) moved on this summer, having consistently shown over six seasons that he isn’t reliable enough, both in terms of [fitness](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dejan-lovren/verletzungen/spieler/37838) and form.

Although Lovren can be good on his day, there are too many poor performances thrown in, such as against Watford last month, when [This Is Anfield](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2020/02/watford-3-0-liverpool-player-ratings/) gave him just a 4/10 rating. While poor showings against [Genk](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1426940/Live/Europe-Champions-League-2019-2020-Genk-Liverpool) and [Brighton](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376041/Live/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Liverpool-Brighton) also spring to mind.

I don’t think the Reds don’t need a top class seasoned professional brought in, considering they already have Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to call upon.

What they need is a talented youngster who can learn from those mentioned, coming in when needed but not expecting to play every week.
