# Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham eye move for defender Ruben Dias

Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are all interested in signing Ruben Dias this summer, according to the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1240483/Tottenham-news-Jose-Mourinho-120m-summer-transfer-revolution-EXCLUSIVE-latest).

The centre-back has caught the eye for Benfica this season, playing in [every minute](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/313171/Show/R%C3%BAben-Dias) of the Champions League group stage.

A summer exit [could](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1240483/Tottenham-news-Jose-Mourinho-120m-summer-transfer-revolution-EXCLUSIVE-latest) be on the cards, however, although any potential suitors will have to meet his £80 million buyout clause.

Jose Mourinho is [known to be close](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1209432/Jose-Mourinho-Jorge-Mendes-Manchester-United-Ruben-Dias-Bruno-Fernandes-Tottenham-news) with Dias’ agent Jorge Mendes, which could give Spurs the edge over Liverpool and City.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

While an exciting young centre-back, I don’t see the need for Liverpool to sign Dias. I believe the 22-year-old could arrive expecting to start, given his reputation and huge buyout clause, but Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are doing a fantastic job alongside one another currently.

Liverpool have conceded just [once in their last 10 Premier League starts](https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Games/129) together, highlighting their influence in the team.

On top of that, [Joel Matip](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/1304) also represents a strong option, while [Dejan Lovren](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/1275) can do a job, too, as proven by the combined total of 292 appearances that they have amassed for the Reds.

Liverpool could look to a target a new central-back if Lovren is sold this summer. Leeds United star Ben White is a player who has been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/11/20/liverpool-have-a-genuine-interest-in-ben-white/) and he could be a good addition to the squad, in my opinion. He has an [85.3 per cent](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322036/Show/Ben-White) pass completion rate this season and his long ball expertise makes him suited to Liverpool, much like Gomez and Van Dijk.

With a [current market value](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-white/profil/spieler/335721) of just £2.25m, he could also be a much cheaper option when compared to somebody like Dias.
