# Liverpool reject Swansea’s bid for Wilson as Derby emerge as favourites

Liverpool have rejected Swansea City’s loan offer for Harry Wilson and Derby County are now favourites to re-sign him, according to The Athletic’s Stuart James on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/stujames75/status/1316399179585982464?s=20).

On Wednesday, the Swans [emerged](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/10/14/swansea-emerge-as-front-runners-to-sign-wilson-on-loan/) as favourites to sign the 23-year-old on a temporary deal, but there has been a quick twist to the story.

It is claimed that Swansea’s bid was a ‘non-starter’ from a financial sense, with Derby leapfrogging them in the reckoning and aiming to bring Wilson back to the club where he spent the 2018/19 season on loan.

There is no agreement in place yet, but it looks as though a deal could happen before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Wilson started Liverpool’s Carabao Cup penalty shootout defeat to Arsenal – his [maiden start for the Reds](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/GamesPerSeason/1314-130) – but Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he sees no place for him in the squad this season.

It is vital that Wilson seals a move elsewhere by Friday, mainly for his own development and career trajectory.

Staying put at Liverpool would mean endless weeks of not playing first-team football, potentially growing stale in the process.

The hope was that Wilson would exit permanently during the summer – Liverpool reportedly rejected a [£12million bid](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-liverpool-reject-attacker-bid-as-transfer-stalls-edwards-wants-another-3m/) from Burnley – but a loan move appears to be the next best thing.

The Wales international has the quality to be a success elsewhere, [scoring 32 goals](<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Wilson_(footballer,_born_1997)#Career_statistics>) during loan spells as Hull City, Derby and Bournemouth, but like so many during the Klopp era at Anfield, he doesn’t quite cut the mustard for this great Reds side.
