# Liverpool scout monitoring the progress of Leeds star White

Liverpool talent scout Andy O’Brien is closely monitoring the progress of Leeds United star Ben White, according to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/1627136/2020/02/23/leeds-phil-hay-ben-white-adidas-bielsa/?source=shared-article).

The centre-back has shone on loan from Brighton this season, helping Leeds into the automatic promotion positions in the Championship.

White has [started all 34](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322036/Show/Ben-White) of his side’s league games in 2019/20 to date, proving to be a key man at the heart of the defence.

Liverpool have been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/11/29/report-reveals-exactly-what-liverpool-like-about-leeds-loanee-ben-white/) with the 22-year-old in the past and their interest is still serious, according to this latest report by [Phil Hay](https://theathletic.com/1627136/2020/02/23/leeds-phil-hay-ben-white-adidas-bielsa/?source=shared-article).

He [states](https://theathletic.com/1627136/2020/02/23/leeds-phil-hay-ben-white-adidas-bielsa/?source=shared-article) that scout O’Brien has been ‘watching White closely’, ahead of a potential summer swoop.

I see White as an excellent replacement for Dejan Lovren at Liverpool, potentially coming in as the Reds’ fourth-choice centre-back [amid claims](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpools-future-squad-already-taking-17716845) that the Croatian could leave the club this summer.

White’s ability on the ball could help him fit in well at Liverpool, with the Englishman enjoying an [85.5 per cent](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322036/Show/Ben-White) pass completion rate in the league this season. In comparison, Virgil van Dijk ([88.8%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/95408/Show/Virgil-van-Dijk)), Joe Gomez ([88.9%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/136451/Show/Joe-Gomez)) are only marginally superior, while Joel Matip ([83.1%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/74341/Show/Joel-Matip)) and Dejan Lovren ([83.9%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/29106/Show/Dejan-Lovren)) are inferior.

At the age of [22](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322036/Show/Ben-White), he would be a long-term signing, rather than someone who comes in as a key man, while his fitness record this season suggests he could be relied upon, unlike the ageing and [injury-prone](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dejan-lovren/verletzungen/spieler/37838) Lovren.
