# Liverpool set to add Matos to coaching staff – another shrewd acquisition

Jurgen Klopp’s backroom team continues to grow, with the Liverpool manager ensuring he has superb individuals helping him to perfect his plans.

According to the [https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-fc-porto-coach-vitor-matos-smooth-path-from-academy-to-first-team-a4249601.html](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-fc-porto-coach-vitor-matos-smooth-path-from-academy-to-first-team-a4249601.html)*[Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-fc-porto-coach-vitor-matos-smooth-path-from-academy-to-first-team-a4249601.html)*, the Reds are closing in on the acquisition of Porto coach Vitor Matos.

The Portuguese is believed to be on the cusp of a move to Anfield, where he will be tasked as being the man to “bridge the gap between the academy and Melwood”.

It is a position that Pepijn Lijnders used to undertake, but the impressive Dutchman has since been promoted to being Klopp’s assistant, following a short spell as manager of NEC Nijmegen.

Matos has actually worked with Lijnders in the past, during the latter’s spell at Porto.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

Matos is a highly thought of coach, so it is hugely encouraging to see him on the verge of joining Liverpool.

There were concerns when Klopp’s long-time assistant Zeljko Buvac left Anfield at the start of last season, but the Reds have only grown since then.

That’s partly down to the Reds boss ensuring he continues to have a top class backroom team helping him along – Matos will hopefully aid him further, in that respect.
