# Liverpool still interested in a Coutinho reunion this summer

Liverpool are still interested in bringing Philippe Coutinho back to the club this summer, according to [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/los-planes-del-barcelona-para-coutinho-7875787), as translated by [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-interested-midfielder-situation-club-value-signing-leave-summer-coutinh-barcelona-bayern-munich/).

The Brazilian departed Anfield back in January 2018, seemingly moving onto bigger and better things at Barcelona.

Things haven’t panned out that way, however, with the [£63 million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/profil/spieler/80444) Coutinho [struggling](https://metro.co.uk/2019/05/13/philippe-coutinho-comforted-jordi-alba-relentless-booed-barcelona-fans-9504293/) at the Nou Camp and [not earning regular starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/80767/Show/Philippe-Coutinho) on loan at Bayern Munich currently.

This latest [report](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/los-planes-del-barcelona-para-coutinho-7875787) claims that Liverpool ‘value’ the potential return of the 27-year-old, should Barcelona choose to sell him at the end of the season.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

Coutinho was a top player for the Reds, and remains a huge talent, but I would be against a move for him this summer.

His time at the club has been and gone and I simply don’t see the need to bring him back, especially given his age and drop-off in recent years.

There are better options out there, should Jurgen Klopp want to sign a new attacking midfielder, with Bayer Leverkusen’s [Kai Havertz](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/15/liverpool-reportedly-readying-huge-offer-for-havertz/) a good example.

At 20, he would be long-term signing, rather than more of a short-term fix, as Coutinho might represent.

Havertz is recording [2.3 key passes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/Show/Kai-Havertz) per game in the Bundesliga this season, whereas the Bayern man is averaging just [1.4](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/80767/Show/Philippe-Coutinho). On top of that, the Leverkusen youngster has averaged [three tackles](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/Show/Kai-Havertz) per game in the Europa League, compared to only [0.7](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/80767/Show/Philippe-Coutinho) for the ex-Liverpool man in the Champions League.

That shows that he is superior in both attacking and defensive facets of his play.

Coutinho burned his bridges with Liverpool after seemingly [forcing](https://metro.co.uk/2017/12/20/philippe-coutinho-agrees-personal-terms-barcelona-ahead-liverpool-exit-7173979/) through his exit in 2018 – the Reds have moved on without him.
