# Liverpool suffer potential blow in quest to sign Sancho and Mbappe

Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their quest to sign Jadon Sancho or Kylian Mbappe this summer.

The [pair](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/12/28/liverpools-interest-in-jadon-sancho-confirmed/) have both been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/13/liverpool-one-of-four-clubs-to-make-offer-for-mbappe/) with the Reds throughout the campaign, ahead of potential exits from Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively.

According to the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-face-transfer-decisions-summer-17945882), however, a move for either player is unlikely to happen, stating that ‘neither move is considered particularly plausible.’

The idea of Sancho or Mbappe playing for Liverpool is a mouthwatering one, but I’m not sure the Reds will justify spending such enormous sums on the pair.

Sancho could end up [costing over](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/03/17/pearce-pours-cold-water-on-liverpools-potential-sancho-move/) £100 million, which would smash the club’s transfer record, while Mbappe could cost a world-record amount.

In Timo Werner, however, Liverpool have a [much cheaper](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/media-watch/386497-klopp-ready-to-trigger-timo-werner-s-50m-release-clause) option this summer – someone who I believe could make his way to Anfield.

The RB Leipzig star has [openly made it clear](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/timo-werner-liverpool-transfer-news-best-in-world-a4366671.html) that he likes the idea of playing for Liverpool, and he could be a great addition to the squad, having scored [88 goals in 150 appearances](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timo_Werner#Career_statistics) for Leipzig.

Should he join, I don’t believe there would be a need to have Sancho or Mbappe as well, considering Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino [are all expected to stay put](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/21/journalist-claims-liverpools-front-three-will-all-stay-put-this-summer/).
