# Liverpool title win would help erase pain of Chelsea slip, admits Gerrard

Steven Gerrard admits the pain of his [slip against Chelsea](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/27092978) will be eased if Liverpool win the Premier League title this season.

The Reds legend suffered the worst moment of his career five years ago, with his error allowing the Blues to go 1-0 up at Anfield, on their way to a 2-0 win.

The defeat essentially cost Liverpool the title in 2013/14, as Gerrard missed out on the one piece of silverware he never managed to win at club level.

The slip still clearly bothers the 39-year-old deeply, but speaking on *[The Greatest Game with Jamie Carragher](https://audioboom.com/channels/5005036)*, he admits Liverpool clinching glory in May would help make up for it:

> When Liverpool won the Champions League, I was looking around the fans thinking: ‘They’re all happy again’, it made me feel better again.

> After Madrid, looking around they were all sad again, but the Champions League last year was a healing moment for me.

> I think winning the league would definitely play a part.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

I believe Gerrard’s error against Chelsea was the worst moment Liverpool have experienced in the Premier League era.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were on the cusp of an incredible feat, but they were robbed in cruel fashion, with one of the club’s greatest figures playing the villain for once.

Some point towards the [3-3 draw at Crystal Palace](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/27184083) that followed, but we feel as though the damage had been done by then, with destiny in Manchester City’s hands at that point.

Gerrard clearly beats himself up about the incident, so Liverpool winning the league this season would provide him with some welcome respite.

If the Reds do go all the way, I can’t wait to see the joy it brings Gerrard, who has contributed more than any Liverpool player since they last won the title.
