# Combined Liverpool and Everton XI

The Merseyside Derby is one of the more intriguing local clashes in world football. With no obvious political, religious, or geographical divides, whether or not you’re a Liverpool or Everton fan seems to be rather arbitrary.

Workplaces, schools, households all pitted against each other, the derby has been the host of some magical moments throughout the years. The 1989 FA Cup final springs to mind as the most poignant occasion, but there have been some cracking footballing displays too.

Steven Gerrard’s hat-trick, Phil Jagielka’s ripsnorter, and my personal favourite, Everton 1-2 Liverpool in 2007 where the Reds won with two Dirk Kuyt penalties (#ComeHomeDirk2016).

This will be Jürgen Klopp’s first Merseyside derby, as his predecessor Brendan Rodgers was sacked following the 1-1 draw earlier in the season. It’s now the Everton boss in trouble, though, as fan sentiment grows increasingly hostile towards Roberto Martinez.

Who would make it into a combined Liverpool and Everton team?
