# Liverpool’s hopes of signing Timo Werner hit with potential hammer blow

Liverpool have been dealt a potential blow in their quest to sign Timo Werner this summer.

The RB Leipzig striker has been the subject of [reported strong interest](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/16/liverpool-are-in-advanced-talks-to-sign-timo-werner/) from the Reds, with his future in Germany up in the air.

While it appeared as though a move to Liverpool looked the most likely outcome, the currently virus-related illness affecting the world may have changed things.

Speaking to [Sport1](https://www.sport1.de/), with quotes cited by the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-linked-timo-werners-future-21739017), Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche admitted there is no guarantee that a deal could happen now.

> It is clear that Timo has attracted interest from other clubs for his great performances with his goals and assists.
>
> England has the same problems as we do. The crisis affects not just one league, it has a global impact, and we cannot say whether things will be the same in six months.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

There is no doubting that this could be a blow to Liverpool, with Werner one of Europe’s most prolific strikers. The 24-year-old has scored [88 goals in 150 matches](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timo_Werner#Club_career_2) for the Bundesliga side, outlining his pedigree.

However, concluding a deal could be in Leipzig’s best interests, earning a good sum of money for his services and not potentially keeping hold of an unhappy player next season.

The [report also adds](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-linked-timo-werners-future-21739017) that Leipzig themselves hope to conclude permanent deals for loan pair Angelino and Patrick Schick this summer, something that the sale of Werner could certainly help.

The hope is that a deal still goes through despite the ongoing issues affecting football, but it is an understandably tricky period when it comes to conducting business.
