# Liverpool’s superior midfield will see them beat Man United, claims Owen

Michael Owen believes Liverpool’s superiority in midfield will see them beat Manchester United this weekend.

The Reds host their most bitter rivals on Sunday afternoon, looking to continue their unstoppable march towards Premier League glory.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will be expected to win against United, although they are the [only team to take points off them](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50030956) in the league his season.

Owen, who [controversially](https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/8131801.stm) played for both clubs during his career, told *[BetVictor](https://blog.betvictor.com/en-gb/sports/football/english-football/premier-league/premier-league-matchday-23-red-rivalry-reignites-this-sunday/)* that he sees the midfield tussle as key, tipping Liverpool to come out on top:

> United have exciting forwards, but they lack the energy and quality of Liverpool in the middle of the field and that is where I expect the game to be won.

> Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 51 home league games – I expect them to make it 52 and counting in one of the most iconic games of the season.

In truth, I believe the Reds are superior in every area of the pitch to United, so there is no reason why they shouldn’t win comfortably.

The only thing holding them back, in my opinion, is that there does still seem to be something of an inferiority complex when they take on United, going back to the 1990s.

The Red Devils have managed to lose just [one of the last eight meetings](https://www.11v11.com/teams/liverpool/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Manchester%20United/) between the two sides, despite struggling in that period.

I do think Liverpool will earn all three points, however, with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum bossing their opponents in the middle of the park.

If Klopp’s men really fire, I tip it to be a very long afternoon for the visitors.
