# Loan Watch #9

**Suso**\
After a mini winter break in La Liga, Suso returned to action when his Almeria side hosted 13th placed Granada. Suso started on the substitutes bench for the newly promoted La Liga side, and came on in the 87th minute of the match when he replaced Fernando Soriano with the score at 3-0. The win rises Suso’s loan side to 14th in La Liga, a place behind Granada. The Spain Under 21 playmaker was back in action for Almeria 4 days later when they travelled to Racing Santander in the Copa Del Rey fifth round. The 20 year old returned to the starting line-up for the game and featured for 83 minutes in the 1-1 draw before being substituted by Oscar Diaz. The good news for Suso is that he assisted Almeria’s only goal which was scored by Corona. Despite some off-field troubles, Suso will have hoped to cement his place back into the starting line-up when his side travel to 4th placed Athletic Bilbao on Saturday 11th January.

**Conor Coady**\
20 year old Conor Coady was dropped to the substitutes bench in place of Jamie Murphy for Sheffield United’s visit to Aston Villa in the FA Cup 3rd round. This was probably due to the game itself as Clough would be more likely to play experienced players but despite his 23 appearances for the Blades this season, Coady is not an experienced player just yet. He did come on in the 80th minute for Jose Baxter as his side recorded a historic win at Villa Park to set them up with another tie against Premier League opposition in the form of Norwich or Fulham. However, the good news for Coady is that his loan has now been extended to 24th February, so he will likely feature in Sheffield United’s next match which is against 23rd placed Notts County.

**Andre Wisdom**\
England Under 21 defender Andre Wisdom again played the full 90 minutes for Derby County when they hosted Chelsea in the FA Cup 3rd round at Pride Park. Wisdom again played well, but wasn’t involved in the game too much, but did set up a chance for Jamie Ward in the 54th minute of the match, but the striker’s effort was blocked by the Chelsea defence. It doesn’t get any easier for Wisdom as his side travel to top of the table Leicester on Friday 10th January. The report will be on next week’s loan watch.

**Jack Robinson**\
England Under 21 left back Jack Robinson played another 90 minutes for loan side Blackpool as they suffered yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup 3rd Round at the Reebok Stadium. The 20 year old did have a chance to equalise and send the tie to a replay in the 85th minute, but his shot was very well saved by Bolton ‘keeper Andy Lonergan. Blackpool are next in action on Saturday 11th January, when they face 15th placed Middlesbrough, a game where Robinson is expected to play the full 90 minutes.

**Fabio Borini**\
Italian Under 21 forward Fabio Borini has had a good week at Sunderland and continues to impress for Gus Poyet’s side. Firstly, Borini was an unused substitute for Sunderland in their 3-1 win at home to Carlisle in the FA Cup 3rd round on Sunday 5th January. This can be seen as a positive as it shows Borini is now a key figure in the Sunderland squad which will give the Italian a big boost. The forward then returned to the starting line-up when his side played host to Manchester United in the Capital One Cup Semi Final 1st leg at the Stadium of Light. Borini played a key part in the game and linked well with strike partner Steven Fletcher. Firstly in the 11th minute, Fletcher set up Borini but the Italian’s effort went wide of David De Gea’s goal. The pair then linked again in the 57th minute as Fletcher header assisted the 22 year old, who went agonisingly close. However, Borini finally got his goal in the 65th minute when Tom Cleverly brought down Adam Johnson in the penalty area. Borini then stepped up to slot it into the top corner, easily beating De Gea as the Liverpool loanee scored the winner against Manchester United of all teams. Borini will be looking to build on this when Sunderland travel to 16th placed Fulham on Saturday 11th January.

**Oussama Assaidi**\
Liverpool outcast Oussama Assaidi has impressed for his loan side Stoke City and has given Brendan Rodgers food for thought when thinking about the Moroccan’s future. He assisted Stoke’s first goal which was scored by Kenwyne Jones in the 15th minute of the 2-1 victory at home to Leicester in the FA Cup 3rd round. His cross found Jones at the back post, and the tall forward had no probably finishing to give Stoke the lead. The winger did have a chance to give Stoke the lead in the 14th minute but his left footed shot was high and wide of Kasper Schmeichel’s goal. Assaidi played 80 minutes in the tie before being substituted by Jonathon Walters and will be hoping that his performance will earn him a starting place in a few week’s time as Stoke play his parent club Liverpool this weekend.
