# Lovren offers support for “unbelievable” Gomez

Dejan Lovren has offered his support for Joe Gomez, calling his centre-back colleague “unbelievable”.

It has been a tough few weeks for Gomez, who became in embroiled in a bust-up with Raheem Sterling, both during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City and on England duty.

The 22-year-old was subsequently booed when he appeared for the Three Lions, despite doing nothing wrong.

Gomez was thought to be hurt by the treatment he received from his own ‘fans’, but he is now back at Liverpool and hoping to move on.

Speaking to *[Sky Sports News](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11866725/dejan-lovren-i-had-to-start-from-zero-again-at-liverpool)*, Lovren praised his teammate for the way he reacted and hailed him as a person:

> I think he reacted well, to be honest. I’ve been speaking with him two or three days ago and asked about it and he was OK, positive and this is what is important for the club and his team-mates.

> We are behind him and that’s what he needs at the moment.

> He’s an unbelievable man and player but it’s aggravated everything about that and he didn’t deserve it.

> You’re playing for the national team and he’s there, giving his best so I don’t think he deserved the boos.

It is still bizarre that Gomez came in for such criticism, given his innocence regarding the Sterling saga.

The youngster clearly has the support of those around him at Anfield, however, highlighting the team spirit on show.

Lovren may be a divisive figure as a player, but he is a great personality who clearly cares about Liverpool and those around him.

Both he and Gomez will be hoping to start on Saturday afternoon, as the Reds make the trip to Crystal Palace.
