# Man City to spend big in January after falling behind Liverpool

Manchester City are willing to spend £100 million in the January transfer window, according to th*e [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7674383/Manchester-City-chequebook-try-pace-league-leaders-Liverpool.html?__twitter_impression=true).* [https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-set-100m-january-20863968](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-set-100m-january-20863968)

The decision has been made “after failing to keep pace with Liverpool in the Premier League title race.”

Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Anfield saw City fall nine points behind the Reds, who have an eight-point advantage over Leicester City and Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola’s side looked all at sea at the back, which may have led to this decision over January reinforcements.

Aymeric Laporte’s absence is huge, while Vincent Kompany’s summer exit has left the champions looking horribly short defensively.

City are thought to be looking at bringing in three players in January, with long-term replacements for Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero all mentioned.

There seems to be a hint of desperation about City’s rumoured approach, as they are sit fourth in the Premier League.

There is a feeling that their squad is ageing a little and that they may be coming towards the end of their cycle.

City remain an enormous threat to Liverpool’s title chances, however, and strengthening in January could only make them more formidable.

It does seem strange that they didn’t address certain areas of the pitch back in the summer, though.
