# Man United interested in signing Liverpool target Havertz

Manchester United are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen star and Liverpool [target](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/31/reliable-journalist-says-leverkusen-are-expecting-liverpool-to-bid-for-havertz/) Kai Havertz, according to [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/06/football-transfer-rumours-lionel-messi-barcelona-manchester-city).

The 20-year-old has become a key man for the Bundesliga side, [scoring 33 goals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kai_Havertz#Career_statistics) since making his debut in 2016.

Havertz has been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/31/reliable-journalist-says-leverkusen-are-expecting-liverpool-to-bid-for-havertz/) with Liverpool this season, but it appears as though there will be competition for his signature.

United are believed to be ‘eyeing up’ the [£81 million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kai-havertz/profil/spieler/309400) attacking midfielder, ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

United’s [rumoured interest](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/06/football-transfer-rumours-lionel-messi-barcelona-manchester-city) in Havertz could be a possible blow to Liverpool, although the two clubs are suffering very different fortunes currently.

In the past, Old Trafford was *the* place to move to in England, as they dominated under Alex Ferguson.

The Reds are now leading the way in the [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables), however, also enjoying their status as [world](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2636636.html) and [European](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48368443) champions.

Havertz has the potential to be an exceptional signing for Liverpool, in my opinion – someone who could bring something different to the Reds’ current midfield options. The Germany international has averaged [2.3 key passes per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/History/Kai-Havertz) in the Bundesliga this season, whereas Fabinho ([0.9](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/115916/Show/Fabinho)), Jordan Henderson ([1.0](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/68659/Show/Jordan-Henderson)) and Gini Wijnaldum ([0.3](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/33568/Show/Georginio-Wijnaldum)) have averaged noticeably fewer in the league.

The likes of [Fabinho](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/115916/Show/Fabinho) and [Henderson](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/68659/Show/Jordan-Henderson) are fantastic in terms of their industry, both attempting more tackles per game than the German, but Havertz could bring more creative magic.
