# Man United show interest in signing Liverpool target Werner

Manchester United are interested in signing Timo Werner, according to the *[Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1243907/Liverpool-tipped-complete-Timo-Werner-transfer-news-RB-Leipzig-release-clause-latest)*.

The 23-year-old is having another excellent season for RB Leipzig, [scoring 25 goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/130903/Show/Timo-Werner) in all competitions.

Liverpool continue to be [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/16/liverpool-are-in-advanced-talks-to-sign-timo-werner/) with a move for Werner, they now [reportedly](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1243907/Liverpool-tipped-complete-Timo-Werner-transfer-news-RB-Leipzig-release-clause-latest) face competition from United, as well as Chelsea.

The striker could still remain at Leipzig after the summer, with his [release clause](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/13/liverpool-must-meet-werners-release-clause-by-april/) needing to be triggered by April.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

The main thing potentially working in United and Chelsea’s favour is that Werner would be the star attacker at both clubs, in my opinion.

In our view, both lack world-class talent in the final third and the Leipzig star’s pedigree speaks for itself, with [86 goals in 145 appearances](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timo_Werner#Career_statistics) for the Bundesliga side.

At Liverpool, we think he might have a battle on his hands for playing time alongside Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino – something that the *[Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpool-transfer-news-timo-werner-latest-today-now-melissa-reddy-a9339361.html)*‘s Melissa Reddy claims could prove to be a stumbling block.

I still see no issue with fitting all four players in the Reds squad, however, with injuries always likely to occur, and both Salah and Mane expected to be on [Africa Cup of Nations](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51119002) duty next year.

Using a [4-2-3-1](https://breakingthelines.com/uncategorized/liverpools-4-3-3-vs-liverpools-4-2-3-1/) formation is also another possibility, with Firmino acting as the No.10 and Werner leading the line.
