# Owen: I’d prefer to be where Liverpool are than where City are

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen says the reaction to Liverpool’s recent draws with Leicester City and West Ham have taken him by surprise slightly as there has been a bit too much negativity.

Speaking after a Liverpool Legends training session ahead of the game against AC Milan’s legends, Owen said the title race is still wide open.

> As we’ve seen in the last month or two, there have been massive swings so, in theory, anything can happen still. I’d prefer to be where Liverpool are than City. Everybody’s making City favourites, but I’m not too sure about that.

When asked about the negative comments and questioning of Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool squad, Owen said that a lot of it has been well overblown.

> It’s really strange how people can twist anything, I suppose…People will say, after recent games, \[Liverpool\] have had a wobble but when you look at the last ten games, Liverpool are way clear in points compared to Man City but nobody’s saying Man City are having a wobble You can’t just pick holes in one or two games. Liverpool are in good form and I wouldn’t be worried at all.

A few ex-players and pundits were quick to say that Liverpool looked too nervous against both Leicester and West Ham and put their performances down to the pressure of being in the title race, but when asked if he thought that was the case, Owen disagreed.

> I don’t think so. You’re allowed to ‘just’ play ok, that’s life. Liverpool have been lucky in the main because every time you turn up at Anfield for the last half a dozen years or so, it’s just been brilliant to watch. The majority of the time, they play brilliant, score loads of goals and win games. Just because we draw a game or whatever, there are questions about nerves or whatever people like to think but I don’t think it’s any of those just yet.

When asked what he thought of the performances in the two games, the former Reds striker said whilst Liverpool weren’t at their best, they still played decently enough and praised both opposition teams.

> I was at the Leicester game. Leicester are a tricky team to play, trickier for the big teams as those games suit their style of defending in numbers and breaking with a bit of speed, as they showed when they won the title not so long ago and West Ham, West Ham can beat anyone, they’ve shown that this year. They can beat anyone and, I wouldn’t say they’re great travellers but they’ve got good players and can turn it on at home. It was a slightly disappointing performance but nothing I’d be using against Liverpool to say they’re in a bad run or anything like that just yet.
